Inspired by the Gulf Oil Spill. "True to my style, I exalted the beauty and strength of nature, using the pelican to represent our ability to overcome tragedy. The moons formed almost organically when I was painting in the background. Seeing them as a great representation of the passage of time I pushed them to become distinct and prominent. A small scene depicts the struggle birds floundering in the oil at the bottom right portion of the canvas."
